Conduct an investigation to demonstrate the use of pH to indicate the differences between the strength of acids and bases

Using pH to indicate differences between the strength of acids and bases

  • The negative logarithm of concentration of [H+] in a solution is termed as the pH of that solution
  • The range of pH for all compounds is from 0 – 14
  • The pH value for a neutral solution is 7. In case of acidic solution, the pH value is less than 7 and for basic solutions, greater than 7
  • pH value of strong acids is generally low. Weak acids tend to have a pH value somewhere in between 5 – 6
  • Strong bases show a higher value of pH and weak bases showcase lower pH value near to 7
