Using pH to indicate differences between the strength of acids and bases
- The negative logarithm of concentration of [H+] in a solution is termed as the pH of that solution
- The range of pH for all compounds is from 0 – 14
- The pH value for a neutral solution is 7. In case of acidic solution, the pH value is less than 7 and for basic solutions, greater than 7
- pH value of strong acids is generally low. Weak acids tend to have a pH value somewhere in between 5 – 6
- Strong bases show a higher value of pH and weak bases showcase lower pH value near to 7
