The Biochemistry of Movement > 9.7.7. Glycolysis is the first stage of the decomposition of glucose to release energy > The Energy Release In Glycolysis >
Summarize the energy release in glycolysis and identify the form in which the energy is captured
- Two ATP are formed through phosphorylation of ADP.
- Energy is captured in the high-energy bond of ATP.
- Two NADH are produced and are used in oxidative phosphorylation to produce six ATP per NADH molecule.
- Four ATP molecules are produced during glycolysis. The net production, however, is two ATP molecules since two are used for energy during the process.
