Solve problems and perform a first-hand investigation to use pH meters/probes and indicators to distinguish between acidic, basic and neutral chemicals
Acidic, basic and neutral chemicals can be distinguished between using the following simple procedure:
- Obtain sample solutions to be tested.
- Use a pH meter to measure the pH of the solutions.
- A solution can be classified according to its pH:
- Solutions with a pH less than 7 are acidic
- Solutions with a pH of 7 are basic.
- Solutions with a pH of greater than 7 are basic.
