The Chemistry of Art > 4. The Transition Metals > Writing Electron Configurations >
Process and present information from secondary sources by writing electron configurations of the first transition series in terms of sub-shells
Rules:
- 4s subshell filled first
- Subsequent shells fill 3d in accorance with the Pauli Exclusion Principle and Hund’s rule
- Exception occur with chromium and copper (As Outlinesd above)
- As having all orbitals half filled or totally filled is more stable than one lacking an electron
- A 4s electron moves into the vacant orbitals to allow this to occur
